Hantarex EQ/3 28″
Description | The Hantarex MGG monitor was produced over a period of some sixteen years: the first produced in 1989, while production of the MGG line was discontinued in 2005. The history of the Hantarex brand name stems from Sambers Italia Spa, an Italian company active since 1965 within the field of professional electronic video, whose core business has largely been intertwined with the world of information and communications specifically intended for public places. The MGG became known and well regarded for the spectacularisation of image display. The designer, Luigi Cameroni (previously employed at Grundig Italia) had a technical and mechanical background, bringing this expertise to product development. Giacomo Taffelli (who had been Project Manager at Philips Italy) was also key to leading the innovation of this Hantarex product line. The MGG monitor was originally designed for a specific market demand from the UK and US. Each year roughly 50,000 units were produced.
Initially used within the video service arena by companies set- ting up trade fairs and conferences (enabling many people to see screens simultaneously) these monitors quickly crossed over into other public spaces such as betting shops, nightclubs and chain stores, before being latterly adopted as video-walls and becoming part of the standard infrastructure at major railway terminuses and airports. Due to its multi-purpose usage, the characteristics and mechanical configuration of the monitor were defined solely by functional requirements such as ease of storage and assemblage, sturdiness, solidity, and minimum space between each image. |
